Rebecca’s Trip to Jersey

The Island of Jersey – Rebecca

A few years ago I spent a week with my husband on Jersey. A quick hours flight from London Luton and we were there! You don’t need a passport, although photo id is recommended!

We took a 30-minute bus which drops you in Liberation Square from where we walked to our hotel, a leisurely 15 minute stroll away. We were on a bed and breakfast basis which left us free to eat out! Jersey is small – just nine miles by five – which makes it easy to explore and we chose to use public transport which was easy given regular services from Liberation Square to the main attractions.

We also did a lot of walking around the coast and through the country lanes – traffic is light so it’s perfectly safe. There are also cycle routes and you can download a map and follow the routes. If you want to drive, you can bring your car over by ferry or hire one. Speed limit is 40 mph and they also drive on the left!

During our week we visited the famous War Tunnels, took the bus to lots of the beaches where you can do paddle boarding, kayaking and even coasteering (we didn’t!). We visited Mont Orgueil Castle, went to a rugby match and enjoyed shopping and eating out in St Helier.

Other attractions include Elizabeth Castle, Jersey Zoo, Botanic gardens, and a vineyard. There’s a surprising amount to do given it’s small size, but Jersey is really perfect for a weekend break though you could happily have a week here. There’s a good range of self-catering accommodation, B&B, boutique and spa hotels – something for all budgets

The other islands that make up The Channel Islands are:

Guernsey

Renowned for its dairy products, especially milk! Victor Hugo resided there for 15 years! Water sports, walking, Spa weekends and much more!

Sark

Cars are not allowed, easy to walk around as only 2 square miles! It was the first place in the world to get Dark Sky Status.

Herm

No cars, no crowds unspoilt beaches, 20 mins by boat from Guernsey.

Alderney

Stunning walks, sandy beaches, bird watching.
